The Designed National Agency (DNA) of Ukraine was established by IODE Data Centre on the basis of the Department of Marine Information Systems and Technologies (MIST) in the Marine Hydrophysical Institute (MHI) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) in 1993.
In 2006, the Department of Marine Environmental and Information Technologies (MEIT) was organized in the MHI in accordance to both the new priorities in scientific research and optimization of the MHI 's structure. MEIT is composed by employees that previously had worked at the Department of Marine Information Systems and Technologies (MIST).
Now MEIT functions as DNA of Ukraine.
At present, 6 scientists and 5 engineers work in the DNA.

MAIN DIRECTIONS OF ACTIVITY

• Development and creation of marine information systems and technologies for oceanographic data collection, storage, exchange, analysis and accessibility
• Development and creation of computer multidisciplinary and specialized oceanographic databases and databanks as well as digital atlases of marine environment condition
• Complex analysis of marine environment condition with the use of computer oceanographic databanks and specialized databases, digital atlases of marine environment condition, mathematic models and creation of expert systems to support making decisions
